Brother Stephen Eamon Gavin was CBC’s athletics director from 1954 through 1961.  He was instrumental in founding the CBC athletics department as he served as its first director.  He also taught European and American History at CBC.  After leaving CBC, Gavin worked at high schools in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan before moving to work at the De La Salle Institute in Chicago for 20 years.  After retiring in 1990, he served as a goodwill ambassador at the Institute until he passed away in 2008.  In 1993, he was inducted into the Chicago Catholic League Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame, only the third Brother ever to be enshrined.
