Richard Bute coached the CBU soccer team from its founding in 1985 until 1997. Richard came to America in 1980 and over his career played soccer professionally for 19 years - 15 years in Poland and 4 years in the United States joining the Major Indoor Soccer League’s Memphis Americans in 1981. In 1985, he helped found the CBU soccer program which he would helm until 1997. In those years, the Bucs won the District 24 Championship twice, TCAC Conference Championship three times, and the team was ranked in the NAIA Top 20 for two consecutive years. He was named Tennessee Coach of the Year twice, District 24 Coach of the Year twice and Conference Coach of the Year twice. He still sits atop the CBU career win list with 112 victories, and he ranks third in winning percentage. His 1988 team went 16-5-1, which is still tied for the most wins in a season in school history.
