Joe Alfonso came to CBC in 1960 as the manager of the school cafeteria.  During his time at CBC, he endeared himself to teachers, students, employees, and visitors alike.  “Mr. Joe”, as he was known, was a constant fixture at CBC games, both home and away, and he was always around to help feed CBC’s hungry student-athletes, especially when school was out of session.  His impact extended beyond the campus, as he helped found the Memphis Restaurant Association in 1939, and he served as secretary-treasurer of the organization for 40 years, plus two years as its president. After he passed away in 1981, the Memphis Restaurant Association established a scholarship in his honor, and this cafeteria was named after him.
